Mustang Leads 2017 Sales

In general, 2017 was a pretty tough year for many automakers. The market wasn’t awful, but it certainly wasn’t very strong. Many automakers saw a drop in their sales. Some of these drops were widespread, while others were isolated to a specific vehicle class or model. In a year marked with such ups and downs, the Ford Mustang was able to end it on a high note. The Mustang boasted higher sales than its muscle car competitors for 2017.

Every year, Chevrolet, Dodge, and Ford compete against each other in all levels of their vehicle sales. However, some of the heaviest competition comes from their muscle cars. The Dodge Charger, Chevrolet Camaro, and Ford Mustang are all iconic performance vehicles, and each command respectable sales every year.

This year, however, the Ford Mustang beat out both of its competitors in sales, quite handily at that. The Mustang had 81,866 sales in 2017, while the Charger had 64,537 and the Camaro had 67,940. Despite a poor sales climate, Ford was still able to edge out its stiff competition.

Automakers learn from each year’s worth of sales, and 2017 was an educational one. Keeping the Mustang on top will take some work, but Ford has a lot in store for 2018. This may even include a new Shelby model. If the Mustang’s sale tendency continues, 2018 will be a good year for the vehicle.
