Ford Kicks Off Peanut Butter Drive

Whether it is our annual Holiday Meals on Wheels program for seniors in Detroit or investing nearly $1.5 billion in civic organizations around the world, The Ford Motor Company is constantly striving to further improve our local communities. In continuing our mission to ensure that no one is left unfed, the Ford Fund and Northwest Ford Dealers are teaming up once again for the fifth annual Ford Peanut Butter Drive.

The goal of the Ford Peanut Butter drive is to help food banks meet the heightened need for nutritious, kid-friendly meals during the summer months when school meal programs are unavailable. This five-state campaign first began in Washington and has now made its way to Massachusetts. Since 2014, the Ford Peanut Butter Drive has received more than 180,000 pounds of peanut butter, enough for more than 2.5 million nutritious sandwiches for the children.

The drive will begin May 5th in Seattle at Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners. Before that night’s Mariners game, peanut butter will be collected from fans at the stadium entrance gates. The following night, May 6th, the Ford Peanut Butter Drive will head to New England. Peanut butter can be donated before that night’s Massachusetts Pirates arena football game. Peanut Butter will also be collected throughout the summer in Boston with the help of the Red Sox Foundation, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

“Hungry kids have a more difficult time learning and reaching their full potential,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund. “We’re proud to support this genuine community effort as part of our extensive hunger relief work and overall mission to improve the quality of life for people.”

Ford and its partner hope that they can capitalize on the success of their other food drive programs. Last year, the Ford Fund and the Ford Focus on Hunger Campaign raised more than $100,000 to 66 Boys and Girls Clubs to cater meals and snacks to children when schools were closed during the holidays.

In addition, the Ford Mobile Pantries deliver meals and collect food donations across the country.

As always Ford Motor Company has a mission of improving people’s lives and making the world a better place. With over $63 million of donation contributions from past year, Ford Fund is improving the quality of life for millions of American each day through access to food and water, and fundamental services, such as job preparation and education.
