Drive into Zen With Mindful Mode in the All-New Ford Explorer

Americans are busy, and a lot of our time is spent staring at screens. Work and leisure seem to revolve around them nowadays, and we actually spend on average half our day on screens. Ford sees a problem and they think they have the solution with Mindful Mode.

Introducing Calm Screen display with Mindful Mode. The 2020 Explorer already has the quietest interior ever, and Ford is pushing that serenity further. Once it’s activated, Mindful Mode takes away all the unnecessary. The instrument display transforms into a calming, simple, and clean screen. The only data displayed is speed, fuel, and the road ahead.

“It’s no secret many people are tethered to their devices – engaging with screens at all hours day and night,” said Sheryl Connelly, Ford global consumer trends and futurist. “People are increasingly aware of and alarmed by their device dependency. Yet if there’s one opportunity throughout the day to reduce your exposure to digital demands, it’s when you’re driving. Ford’s new Explorer can serve as a sanctuary from chaos and distraction.”

The issue is that smartphones and all our other devices are specifically designed to engage the attention receptors in the human brain via sounds, shapes, and vivid colors. The goal of this is to keep people coming back for more; we literally get hooked on screens. The opposite is the goal of Mindful Mode. It soothes neurons with cool blue colors, basic smooth shapes, and silence.

Mindful Mode will debut in the 2020 Ford Explorer which arrives this summer — get ready to say ooom.
