The roar of a Mustang’s engine is something to behold. The vehicle’s powerful engine puts out quite a bit of noise to match its fairly significant power. The 2018 Mustang GT is a prime example of this; the vehicle is paired with a V8 engine that likes to rumble. Unfortunately, this can lead to some upset neighbors, which is exactly what happened to a former head of vehicle engineering for Ford Motor Company.

Steve von Foerster’s interaction with his neighbor led him to pursue new developments in the Mustang’s engine. Foerster was driving through his suburban development when the police received a complaint about the loudness of his vehicle. Foerster drives a Shelby GT350 Mustang equipped with a V8.

This interaction led Ford to develop the Quiet Exhaust mode and the Quiet Start. These two new features make them very neighbor friendly. In addition to including these new features, Ford has given its drivers the ability to customize their experience. The new Mustangs can be programmed ahead of time to remain in these modes during certain hours of the day to coincide with when the vehicle will be in quiet residential areas.

Ford engineers have taken consideration for your neighbors above and beyond in this regard. When a driver has their vehicle in these modes, the vehicle will have an engine rumble that registers at about the same volume as a dishwasher.

The 2018 Mustang is set to be the fastest Mustang ever, however, it is also set to have the ability to be the quietest.
