This car was the one that lent its name in the future to the Ford Galaxy minivan but there really aren't any similarities between both the vehicles apart from that. What's interesting to know is that the Galaxie competed with 4x4 heavyweights because of its size. The car hit its peak in 1963 when 648,010 vehicles were produced and sold.

Not the Car’s Fault, Human Error

It is considered the ultimate car for many collectors and is also one of the few still around to have the classic early styling by Ford. The only thing which the company may have done wrong as far as this car is concerned is to offer it in too many variants and with too many optional features. The electrical systems aren't too reliable either. But there is no denying the fact that if you can get your hands on one in decent condition, you will not have more fun driving a vehicle than this.

Engine and Performance

The car came with various engines ranging from 3.9 L V6 engines to the huge 7.0 L V8 engines. The car itself is solid and you feel good when you're behind the wheel. You will also find it hard to undervalue its good looks and charm. It can handle the road pretty well no matter what speed you're at and can ride smooth over any uneven surfaces and bumps.

It can corner a lot better than any car its size should be able to, but the brake performance isn't really something that it could gloat about. And quite like any car from that period, it is incredibly thirsty as far as fuel is concerned.

Equipment and Features

If you look at the 7 liter model, it was essentially a sort of XL model which came with a luxury trim on the horn ring as well as alternative styling for the dash with a few modifications on the outside like a curve on the center of the grille which would reduce the squared off sort of look it had. One exceptional feature in the car is its heater.

The heater is so good that you can even drive the car with the top down during winters. Some of the other features which you could look forward to in these cars was the power steering, power brakes, automatic gearbox, and the defroster.

Competition

As far as competition is concerned, there was no bigger competitor for the Galaxie than the Impala. Even till this day, both remain huge competitors as far as classic used cars are concerned. Some of the other popular models of the era which competed with the two include the Pontiac Firebird, Chevrolet Camaro, and the Buick Riviera.

Unfortunately today, most of the Galaxies have been neglected by their owners and are rotting with corrosion all over their body. But if you are willing to overlook the work required in fixing up an old, beaten up Galaxie then you can really have some fun in one of them cruising down the streets.

Do you want to relive your glory days from the 60's and 70's? There's no easier way of doing this than by getting a Ford Galaxie. If you like older cars that are not as sleek and comfortable as newer cars, do not overlook a Galaxie. It could be a fantastic muscle car.
