Here is an interesting story from one of the best cars Ford Automobiles ever manufactured.
And if you do not know what drifting is, you should watch Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift. It was not the best movie in this series, not even close, but it does show you what drifting is about.
Drift mode changes a few settings in the stability control area and AWD (All Wheel Drive) systems so that the Focus RS can slide and skid more. This is astounding news for fans of drifting all around the country. Looks like the team behind the Fast and the Furious franchise have a new contender in the mix – if they have some more parking garage or even city races since drifting can impact a city race too.
According to Tyrone Johnson, Ford's manager of performance vehicles and engineering, drift mode was an accident discovery that was made while they were testing the RS's twin-clutch AWD system. The person who handles the lead dynamics was sitting in the car with the person who handles the calibration for the AWD system with their laptop.
They were testing things out and came across this feature which felt really "cool." Eventually, they demonstrated these tail-happy settings to Raj Nair, the global technical & development chief officer at Ford, who ultimately agreed that this was a major selling point for the car and pushed to add it to the production version. The rest is history.
Engine
The Focus RS is the answer to every rally-driver wannabe and hot-hatch hooligans dream. It comes with a turbocharged 2.3 L 4-cylinder engine which pumps out 350 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque to the AWD system. It comes with a six-speed manual transmission and a torque vectoring system. It also has 19 inch wheels and can go from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds.
Interior
There are a couple of Recaro bucket seats inside the cabin which is the biggest update the interior gets with the RS. The seats are covered with a mix of leather and cloth with an option to order them in full leather too. Some other upgrades which can be ordered include heated mirrors, heated steering wheel, heated front seats, and a separate navigation system. The seats have been specially designed for comfort when you are on long drives.
Exterior
The shell has been redesigned. They have engineered in additional torsional body stiffness. The steel that is running between the suspensions turrets on the back has also been thickened.
The theme has finally been established with the Focus RS. It may not be an easy car to drive; it uses too much gas; the seats are a little high, and you won't be able to grasp the opportunities to exploit its amazing handling all the time. But the fact remains that it offers high end driving pleasure that is just not available in this class otherwise.
This is the most fun you are going to have with a hatchback both on the track and the road. To find a car which corners with this much ability and agility, and offers similar confidence is a couple of classes above.
A Sharp Looking Car
Ford has democratized uniqueness and specialness and created the perfect hot hatch which you can enjoy every single time you take it on the road. There's no other hot-hatch which even comes close. Now you know which one to buy. It looks like rally racing is going to come to the streets of America.
