The post-season of the 2020 NASCAR Playoffs officially kicked off this past Sunday night at Darlington Motor Speedway. After the dust settled, it was Kevin Harvick, 2020 NASCAR Playoff points leader and driver of the number 4 Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing, who took home the momentous victory.

After running near the front of the pack all evening, Harvick happened to be in the right place at the right time to snatch the win at this year's running of the Cook Out Southern 500. The victory marks Harvick’s second of his career at the historic race, and his first of the 2020 Playoff postseason circuit.

It was a feel-good night for Harvick, who took the lead on lap 355 of 367 after fellow playoff contenders Chase Elliott and Martin Truex Jr. took themselves out of first and second place following a botched pass attempt. Harvick, who occupied third place when Truex Jr. and Elliott made contact, had no trouble taking the lead following the incident.

Following the race, Harvick spoke to Ford Performance about what he saw in front of him when the accident occured.

“Obviously, those guys had trouble...I’ve just got to thank everybody on our Busch Beer Ford Mustang. They did a heck of a job tonight just keeping us in the game...we just kept fighting and kept ourselves up in the front with some great pit strategy and were able to stay up there and fight and wound up in the right spot.”

Shortly after crossing the start-finish line, Harvick allowed an eager young fan (one of a limited number of attendees at this year’s race) to take home the official checkered flag rather than keeping it for himself.

“Anytime you can win the Southern 500, it’s a good day,” Harvick said. This is one of the most prestigious races in our sport and one of the most prestigious race tracks in our sport. Any time you can win at Darlington it’s a big deal,” he added.

Overall, Harvick's victory at Darlington this past Labor Day weekend was his eighth this season and the 57th race win of his iconic career. As a result, Harvick now occupies fifth place on the all-time career NASCAR Cup Series wins list.

With nine more races sitting between Kevin Harvick and the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Championship, the Ford Performance driver doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

One of the biggest reasons for Harvick’s remarkable success this year is the sheer amount of power that can be found underneath the hood of his iconic number 4 Ford Mustang, which is powered by some of the same genuine Ford parts that are installed on the 2020 Mustang models that are currently available on our lot.
