The all-new F-150 Lightning is the only full-size electric pickup you can buy today that offers a starting price less than $40,000. Ford Motor Company recently stated that the pickup will begin to ship to customers very soon – likely days away. All shipments will start first with the Pro Series editions.
To celebrate the occasion, Ford Chief Financial Officer John Lawler, members of the F-150 Lightning team, the UAW, and additional Ford leaders and collaborators were honorary ringers for the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange on April 28, 2022 earlier in the morning.
First developed at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center that is a smaller part of Ford’s massive Rouge Complex in Dearborn, Michigan, the F-150 Lightning is as tough as any combustion-powered pickup and offers more features and tech. In fact, the Ford F-Series, still the best-selling pickup series in the United States for 45 years in a row, is only bested by the iPhone in revenue among all American consumer products, according to research completed in 2020.
“It’s not every day that you get to launch a truck that will change the way Americans feel about electric vehicles,” said Linda Zhang, F-150 Lightning chief program engineer. “The team has done a phenomenal job ensuring we are offering customers unique features only made possible by the electric power unit. But it’s the drive experience that will blow people’s minds. It is simply effortless.”
The innovative F-150 Lightning can go from 0 to 60 mph in the mid-4-second range with the extended-range battery, making it the fastest-accelerating F-150 to date. Its planted ride ensures a ride and handling experience not usually felt by a truck driver. It also has the most torque of any F-150 ever (at 775 lbs.-ft.) and because it’s almost instantaneous, offers effortless towing.
The new F-150 Lightning makes its mark in the all-electric lineup that includes Ford’s Mustang Mach-E SUV and E-Transit commercial van – arguably the industry's most innovative and mainstream electric vehicles. Ford is scheduled to bring to the market more than 2 million electric vehicles annually by 2026, equal to about one-third of the company’s global volume, on the way to 50% by 2030.
