Ford has recently announced the all-new, seventh generation Ford Mustang, and just like all of its predecessors, it’s making quite the splash. This latest Mustang runs on groundbreaking new turbocharged and naturally aspirated engines, something that’s making Ford stand out from its peers as many other automakers are leaning into electric sports cars.
“Investing in another generation of Mustang is a big statement at a time when many of our competitors are exiting the business of internal combustion vehicles,” said Jim Farley, CEO of Ford Motor Company. “Ford, however, is turbocharging its ICE growth plan, adding connected technology, opinionated derivatives, and hybrid options to our most profitable and popular cars – all in the Ford Blue family – on top of investing $50 billion in electric vehicles through 2026.”
Ford has been dedicated in their efforts to partake in the electric future of the automotive industry, but unlike other vehicles like the Maverick or the Escape, there are no intentions to move the Mustang towards hybrid or battery electric versions at this time. The experience of driving a Mustang is something that simply can’t be replicated by the electric power that’s currently available, and sacrificing the sound and feeling of the vehicle would be like sacrificing the legacy of the Mustang itself, so the seventh generation will continue to feature gasoline power.
The new Mustang GT will run on an advanced 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine. The fourth-generation 5.0-liter will have a dual air intake box and dual-throttle body design to enable higher air flow rates and minimize induction loss, creating the most naturally-aspirated horsepower of any Mustang GT yet.
The 5.0-liter V8 engine uses a standard six-speed manual transmission. An advanced 10-speed automatic transmission is also available, one that can almost instantaneously reconfigure its shift patterns to match the vehicle’s current drive mode. There is also an optional Performance Pack available for the Mustang GT and EcoBoost models. With this upgrade, the vehicle gains a front Tower Brace, Torsen Limited Slip differential and optional MagneRide active suspension, wider rear wheels and tires, larger front and rear Brembo brakes, and more. The GT Performance Pack also includes brake ducts that provide enhanced cooling and a standard auxiliary engine oil cooler.
“This is the most athletic and confidence-inspiring Mustang EcoBoost and GT to drive yet,” said Ed Krenz, Ford Mustang chief nameplate engineer. “Whether driving an automatic or manual transmission, thanks to drive modes combined with fine-tuned digital engine, suspension and steering controls, we’re now able to give drivers peak performance everywhere, from their favorite roads to their local track.”
