Just before a big reveal celebration at the incoming 2022 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Ford is hosting a costume contest that will earn the winner a new Mustang car lease!
Mustang enthusiasts will be given their first look at the next-generation edition on September 14, specifically at Hart Plaza on the Detroit Riverfront. To honor the legendary Mustang's first six generations, Ford is ready to celebrate the Best Stang Decade contest as part of the unveiling to recognize every decade of the car’s existence.
All guests attending The Stampede – the showing of the new seventh-generation Mustang – are encouraged by Ford to adorn clothes or costumes that are inspired by their favorite period in the Mustang’s legacy, from the 1960s all the way through 2022.
As part of the contest, Ford stated that a select panel of Hour Detroit magazine editors, fashion experts, and arts and entertainment professionals will judge the Mustang-fan competitors and choose 12 finalists total -- two from each decade. The first place victor will get a two-year lease on an all-new Mustang GT. The second place winner will earn an early drive of the all-new Mustang. The competitor who places third gets to take a 'hot lap' in the all-new Mustang with a professional Ford Performance driver.
Best Stang Decade competitors will have to be photographed at one of the photo booths at The Stampede between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. EDT on Sept. 14. Winners will be revealed no later than Sept. 15, 2022.
Ford is also inviting Mustang owners to register to participate in The Stampede: Convoy to Debut, a parade of Mustangs from Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn to Hart Plaza in Detroit.
The 2022 North American International Auto Show will be the first iteration of the event staged since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and also the first auto show under the new format which includes venues beyond the Huntington Place exhibit halls. The show opens to the public on Saturday, September 17 and runs through Sunday, September 25.
