The Edmunds Top Rated awards are in for 2023, and Ford cleaned up with several different awards this year, including the Ford F-150 as the Top Rated Truck, the Ford F-150 Lightning as the Top Rated Electric Truck and the Best of the Best out of all the rated vehicles. All of these awards together make Ford the most recognized brand for the year.
Edmunds has been a trusted source of information in car shopping for over 50 years, making these recognitions especially prestigious. This is also the F-150’s third consecutive year as the Top Rated Truck, another sign of how the F-150 and Ford’s generations of internal combustion engine vehicle innovation have helped to set the industry standard in trucks.
Winners of the Edmunds Top Rated Award are chosen by the Edmunds editorial team. They form their opinions during the rigorous vehicle testing and ranking process, which lately includes a special Edmunds EV Range Test for electric vehicles. The editors select the winners from a group of finalists that includes each of the highest-ranked eligible new vehicles in their class. In order to be eligible, vehicles must have undergone the full Edmunds testing process by November 1, 2022, and they must be available for sale on January 1, 2023.
“For decades, the Ford F-150 has been America’s workhorse,” said Alistair Weaver, Edmunds Editor-in-Chief, “and it’s never been in better shape. It’s more innovative, more appealing to drive and more versatile than ever before. Nobody understands the needs of the modern truck buyer better than Ford and nobody builds a better truck.”
Weaver also went on to acknowledge the pivotal role that the F-150 Lightning has played and will continue to play in the EV revolution that’s currently overtaking the industry. “It’s hard to overestimate the importance of the Ford F-150 Lightning. Electrifying the most popular vehicle in the U.S. [F-Series] was a project fraught with risk, but Ford nailed the brief, brilliantly. The result is a better kind of truck and one that will stand at the vanguard of the electric revolution for years to come… [The F-150 Lightning] embraces the advantages of electric technology to create a better truck for truckers. This isn’t a lifestyle toy; it’s a working tool in the best tradition of the F-150. The heart of America is in robust health.”
