Ford’s electric vehicles are becoming more and more advanced and sophisticated, even in the realm of adventure vehicles, and to celebrate this progress and honor the explorers of the past, the company is teaming up with Lexie Alford, Lexie Limitless to her online fans, for a groundbreaking trip around the world in a 100% electric Ford Explorer.
The timing of this trip pays homage to one explorer in particular– Aloha Wanderwell, an iconic adventurer of the last century. This filmmaker, wife, mother, and daring adventurer began her travels at the age of 16, and between 1922 and 1927 she became the first woman to drive around the world, doing so in a Ford Model T, one of the revolutionary vehicles of the time. Wanderwell broke down barriers for female adventurers, and defined the possibilities for car travel as well. Now, 100 years later, Lexie Alford and her electric Explorer will be doing the same thing.
Alford became the youngest person to visit every country in the world at 21 years old, and she has taken great inspiration from Wanderwell in her travels. “Aloha Wanderwell’s story is particularly inspiring for female travelers, but it truly encourages everyone to push their limits and explore new places,” she said. “I am excited to follow in the tire tracks of this legendary trailblazer, while showing what the electric future of overland travel can look like. There’s going to be many obstacles and challenges, but that’s part of the fun of travel and I’m going to be documenting it all online!”
The all-electric Explorer, recently making its debut in Europe, will be Alford’s vehicle throughout this exciting journey. Combining German engineering with American style, the new Explorer is loaded with cutting edge technology, including a supersized movable touchscreen that can conceal a secret locker, wireless smartphone connectivity, and electric powertrains that can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 25 minutes.
“We’re excited to see what our new all-electric Explorer and Lexie Alford can do together on this expedition – inspired by Aloha Wanderwell’s ground-breaking trip,” said Martin Sander, general manager, Ford Model e, Europe. “We were a part of Aloha’s journey all those years ago and have been helping people take on ambitious adventures ever since – we can’t wait to see how our electric future will keep that rebellious spirit going.”
