Ford is marking a significant milestone in its long-standing relationship with law enforcement agencies across the country. The 2025 Ford Expedition® Special Service Vehicle (SSV) is now available for order, continuing a legacy that began 75 years ago with the introduction of the Police Package on the 1950 Ford Custom. Designed to meet the unique demands of law enforcement, fire departments, and government agencies, the new Expedition SSV promises rugged versatility, advanced technology, and unparalleled capability—ensuring public service remains efficient, effective, and dependable.
The Expedition SSV has evolved into a second-generation model that offers improved performance and functionality, specifically designed to support the men and women who serve on the front lines. Whether it’s towing, carrying personnel, or hauling heavy gear, the Expedition SSV is built to excel in every aspect of law enforcement and emergency response work.
Lindsey Bertino, Ford's police brand marketing manager, highlighted the vehicle’s commitment to supporting law enforcement: “Duty is at the heart of everything our valued law enforcement customers do, and that’s a standard the Expedition SSV is built to meet. We’re very proud to add another all-new vehicle to our police lineup with incredible technology like the panoramic display that departments across the country are looking for.”
Available in two configurations, the 2025 Expedition SSV is ready to handle the unique needs of its users. The two-row configuration includes durable cloth seating surfaces, vinyl floors, and multiple power points, ensuring that both officers and equipment have the necessary resources throughout the vehicle. For larger teams or more extensive gear, the Expedition Max SSV offers three rows of seating and a third-row 60/40 PowerFold® with Power Recline, designed to maximize space and adaptability.
In terms of practicality, the 2025 Expedition SSV introduces the innovative Ford Split Gate feature, a class-first design that allows for quick access to the rear cargo area. The upper portion of the liftgate can be raised for fast access, while the lower tailgate folds down to create a stable platform that can support up to 500 pounds. This feature is ideal for organizing equipment during critical moments when every second counts.
The 2025 Expedition SSV doesn’t just excel in performance; it also brings cutting-edge technology to ensure the safety and efficiency of law enforcement officers. A standout feature is the standard 24-inch panoramic display, which replaces the traditional gauge cluster. This display keeps crucial vehicle information at eye level, enhancing situational awareness for officers during their daily operations.
Additionally, the Expedition SSV comes with Dark Car mode, which shuts off all interior lighting, ensuring discretion during stakeouts and other undercover operations. The Police Accessory Independent Timed-Release Output (PAITRO) feature provides extra security, helping prevent unauthorized access to the vehicle’s cargo area, keeping sensitive materials safe and secure.
Under the hood, the 2025 Expedition SSV is powered by a robust 3.5-liter EcoBoost® V6 engine, generating 400 horsepower and 480 lb.-ft. of torque. This performance is matched by a new two-speed transfer case with Touch on Demand and 4-Auto, which provides superior off-road and towing capabilities. The Expedition SSV boasts an impressive 9,600-pound maximum towing capacity, making it an ideal choice for towing heavy equipment, trailers, or other necessary vehicles.
Ford’s Pro Trailer Hitch Assist™ and Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ make hitching and maneuvering trailers easier, while the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®) with Cross-Traffic Alert and Trailer Coverage ensures officers remain aware of their surroundings—whether they’re driving in urban settings or rural landscapes.
The introduction of the 2025 Expedition SSV marks another chapter in Ford’s rich history of serving law enforcement agencies across the nation. For over 75 years, Ford has been committed to providing vehicles that meet the specific needs of law enforcement, from the early 1950s Ford Police Package to the iconic Crown Victoria and beyond. Throughout the years, Ford has continuously advanced the safety, durability, and performance of its police vehicles, becoming a trusted partner to law enforcement agencies nationwide.
Ford’s dedication to safety was evident when it pioneered innovations like the 75 mph rear crash crumple zones and ballistic door panels, ensuring officers’ protection in extreme situations. The company also played a pivotal role in the development of pursuit-rated hybrids, such as the Police Interceptor® Utility Hybrid AWD, and the first purpose-built electric law enforcement vehicle, the F-150® Lightning® Pro SSV.
“Our long heritage of working with law enforcement is a prominent part of Ford’s history,” Bertino added. “For 75 years, we’ve been working with law enforcement, and we are grateful to all of the agencies, officers, and Ford employees who have helped design and build America’s best-selling lineup of police vehicles.”
The 2025 Ford Expedition SSV joins an impressive lineup of purpose-built law enforcement vehicles that includes the Ford F-150® Police Responder®, Transit Prisoner Transport Vehicle, and the Mustang Mach-E® in pilot programs with agencies nationwide. Each of these vehicles has been engineered to meet the demanding needs of police officers and emergency responders, delivering performance, safety, and reliability in every situation.
Ford continues to lead the industry with its dedication to building durable, safe, and upfit-friendly vehicles that are ready to serve. As the 2025 Expedition SSV enters the fleet, it reinforces Ford’s commitment to delivering high-quality, mission-ready vehicles for public service.
