Over the last few years, Ford Pro, the company's commercial division, has worked to improve and streamline the adoption of electric vehicles for business use. One of America's largest commercial fleet markets is located in California, where the new Ford Pro Smart Charging Bundle was just introduced.

There can be a slight learning curve when it comes to charging electric cars, even for individual drivers. Large commercial fleets may find the operation to be considerably more complicated. In order to facilitate the seamless integration of EVs into company fleets, enhance operational efficiency, and lower initial and recurring EV charging expenses, the Ford Pro Smart Charging Bundle was developed. In order to achieve these goals, the package provides companies with Ford Pro Charging software subscriptions and a complimentary Ford Pro Level 2 48-amp charger or a Level 2 80-amp charger for charging at the workplace or depot.

A new automatic demand-to-grid response system that responds to grid events in California, such elevated local demand, is also included in the charging software for Ford Pro vehicles. When a grid event occurs, the charging software will detect it, pause charging automatically, notify the client, and resume charging after the event is over. By limiting vehicle charging to off-peak hours, when power rates are usually lower, consumers can save money in addition to easing the strain on the grid and lowering the risk of brownouts and blackouts.

“California is an EV pioneer, and new regulations aim to accelerate businesses’ electric transition,” said Ted Cannis, Ford Pro CEO. “We’re here to do the heavy lifting and help companies navigate the complexities of electrification, helping them be more productive and efficient as they add EVs to their fleet. Our smart charging software helps businesses effectively manage their charging operations, including scheduled charging to avoid peak periods when electricity is in high demand at high rates and automated participation in grid events.”

There are many advantages to moving to electric cars as a society beyond just protecting the environment, and Ford is always coming up with new, creative ways to make the switch simpler and more affordable.
