Ford has long been the force behind the nation's favorite truck, the Ford F-150, but it's also one of the largest and most influential automakers in the country. Recently, the company has reaffirmed its position, taking the top spot as America's largest automaker according to several significant metrics.

In terms of automobiles assembled, vehicles exported from the United States to foreign nations, and total hourly workers employed, Ford Motor Company is the top automaker in the U.S. according to the most recent data from S&P Global Mobility. Ford has been in first place for six years running now.

Approximately 57,000 hourly manufacturing workers are employed by Ford, more than any other automaker in the United States. To work on building new Bronco and Ranger vehicles, Ford's Michigan Assembly Plant is already assembling and training a staff of around 900 new hires, meaning that the total number of hourly workers will soon be growing. Ford's strength as an employer in the United States extends far beyond its production sites, as well. With more than 2,800 dealerships across the nation, including Haldeman Ford, Ford and Lincoln together account for an even larger share of jobs and community benefits.

Ford produced nearly 1.8 million vehicles in the United States in 2023 at facilities in Michigan, Missouri, Kentucky, and Ohio– 130,000 more than any other automaker. These cars included SUVs and pickup trucks, with the best-selling F-Series truck line being a particular favorite. These vehicles spanned from conventional gas-powered models to hybrid and electric vehicles. Compared to other automakers, Ford sells more cars in the U.S. that were produced in the US, with over 79% of its vehicles sold here.

In 2023, Ford also exported a record 260,000 American-assembled vehicles, more than any other automaker. These vehicles included the F-150, the Bronco, and the Mustang. Approximately one out of every seven Ford automobiles manufactured in the United States are shipped to foreign markets such as South Korea, China, Mexico, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

“Ford is a uniquely American company,” said Andrew Frick, Ford Blue president. “We are proud to serve our customers with vehicles that embody the best of American innovation and ingenuity.”
